IPL 10 RPS vs DD: Delhi seals first win by thumping Pune by 97 runs

Pune: Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) suffered a thumping defeat by 97 runs at their home turf Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium here in the hands of Delhi Daredevils (DD), which after posting a huge total of 205/4, restricted the home side to just 108/10 on Tuesday.

After an exhibition of sheer flamboyance with the bat, DD bowlers, led by captain Zaheer Khan, tested the RPS batsmen with their pace and spin, as they looked in a tizzy situation in absence of their regular captain Steve Smith and in-form batsman Manoj Tiwary.

Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra were the pick of the bowlers as they bagged three wickets each, giving away 20 and 11 runs, respectively.

Pat Cummins got two scalps while Shahbaz Nadeem and Chris Morris managed to pluck one wicket each in their spells.

Mayank Agarwal was the highest run scorer for RPS as he managed to touch the 20-run mark off 18 balls, before getting out to Khan. Ajinkya Rahane (10), Faf du Plessis (8), Rahul Tripathi (10) and Ben Stokes (2) also failed miserably in standing at the crease for long.

MS Dhoni once again could not fulfil the expectations of the audiences as he got out after adding 11 runs off 14 balls with a six. Rajat Bhatia scored 16 runs, while Deepak Chahar added 14 runs to the RPS total.

The star-studded RPS was surprisingly wrapped up in just 16.1 overs to make it the biggest defeat in terms of runs this IPL season.

Earlier, after being put in to bat first, Delhi Daredevils managed to post a huge score of 205 runs on the scoreboard, riding on the back of a brilliant hundred by Sanju Samson (102 off 63, 8 fours, 5 sixes). He was also awarded the man of the match award for his mind-boggling performance.

With their first win out of the two matches played so far, Daredevils climbed to the third spot in the points table while RPS has gone down to seventh position.
