Kanpur: After exhibiting a superb bowling performance, England showed great character with the bat too to achieve an average looking target of 148 runs set by India at Green Park stadium here on Thursday.

England skipper Eoin Morgan played the leading role in his team's 7-wicket win as he scored 51 runs off 38 balls hitting one four and 4 sixes before getting out to Parvez Rasool.

Joe Root kept his nerves and ensured England wins the first match of the three-match T20I series. He scored 46 runs off 46 balls hitting 4 boundaries.

England openers, Jason Roy (19 off 11, 2 sixes) and Sam Billings (22 off 10, 3 fours and 1 six), set their team of to a flying start before they both were clean bowled by Yuzvendra Chahalin the 4th over.

England lost their first wicket on 42 runs in just 3.2 overs, which eased out the way for the coming batsmen to achieve a modest target easily with 11 balls remaining.

Earlier, being put in to bat first, India kept losing their wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 147/7 on a good batting track. Moeen Ali bagged two important wickets of Indian captain Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey, while Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, Ben Stokes and Liam Plunkett took one wicket each.
