India vs Australia, WTC Final Day 5

India vs Australia Live Score, WTC 2023 Final Day 5: The World Test Championship cycle has once again come down to the final day of the final. Australia are still well in command of the match, having set a daunting target of 444 for India to track down. The Indian team lost 3 wickets on day 4, and still need 280 runs if they are to complete a record run-chase. While Virat Kohli is still at the crease, however, fans will believe a chance remains to pull off the greatest Test chase of all time — and that is certainly what it will take to gain a positive result. Kohli is 6 runs away from his half century, and the former captain will hope he is in for a big score to guide India home on this all-important final day.

India vs Australia Live Score: Kohli joins elite list

Virat Kohli returned unbeaten on 44 at the close of play on Day 4. He played some breathtaking shots on both sides of the park and also completed a personal milestone while doing so.

He is now the only fifth Indian batter to score over 2000 Test runs against Australia. The only names above him are:

Sachin Tendulkar: 3630

VVS Laxman: 2434

Rahul Dravid: 2143

Cheteshwar Pujara: 2074

Kohli has 2037 runs under his belt and would like to add more to his tally to help India's case at the WTC finals.

Why is Virat Kohli India's best option?

Only five India batters have scored more than 1000 runs in the fourth innings of a chase with Kohli being the latest entrant with 1033 runs in 32 such ocassions, laced with two centuries and seven fifties.

696 of those runs came on Day 5 of a Test match at 69.60. He has in fact scored a century on the last day of a Test three times, making him the only batter to do so in the last 10 years.
