Lucknow: India surpassed Canada 4-0 in its inaugural Pool D match of the 11th FIH Junior Hockey World Cup at Major Dhyan Chand Astroturf stadium here on Thursday.

Mandeep Singh began the proceedings for India hitting the first goal in the 35th minute. Later, Harmanpreet Singh (46th), Varun Kumar (60th) and Ajit Pandey (66th) struck other three goals in the second period.

Minnows Canada was never in the India-dominated game. It could be mentioned here that Canada team has 13 Indian origin players in its 18-member squad.

India will lock horns with England in their next poll match on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, England had beaten South Africa 4-2 in nail-biting clash.
