Gay referee quit after facing verbal abuse in Spain

Madrid: Describing the new generation footballers as 'intolerant young players', the first openly gay referee in Spanish Footbal league Jesus Tomillero announced to quit following continuing abuse from the players and supporters.

' I am subjected to abuse since past two months after having come out in open as gay,'' he said adding ''the young players are more intolerant.''

Tomillero's immediate provocation to quit was a game between Portuense and san Fernando Isleno in the Andalusian Under-19 league when he was oput to public ridicule and verbal abuse.

Resident of southwest of Spain, the referee admitted he had to face a lot of abuse since he disclosed his sexuality about two months ago.
