An ecstatic Colombian coach Angelo Marsiglia said that it was a fantastic win for his team. ‘’We are obviously pleased with the performance of the players…. it's a great victory,’’ he said in the post-match press conference.

He, however, said that his team would have to continue to better its performance in the matches to come.

‘’We must keep on improving our game,’’ he remarked.

There were extraordinary scenes at the stadium filled to capacity after Vanegas headed the winning goal.

The fans erupted in joy as the header found its way into the next to the perplexed German goalkeeper.

Huge numbers of Colombia fans were present at their opening win over South Korea at the same stadium, and they made themselves known again in numbers and noise here. At the final whistle, it seemed Sydney had been transformed into Bogota.
