Luton Captain Tom Lockyer suffered a heart attack during an English Premier League football match and was rushed to the hospital.

According to the reports, Lockyer, for the second time, suffered a heart attack in the middle of the field. He fell on the field itself. Seeing his condition, fellow players and some spectators started crying. He was immediately taken to the hospital.

The English Premier League football match being played in Bournemouth had to be cancelled. Luton team management said Lockyer was immediately taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. His family is with him.

This Wales defender fell on the field in the 59th minute of the match. Players of both the teams immediately reached him. The 29-year-old player was given treatment on the field and was later taken out on a stretcher.

The match was tied at 1–1 when Luton fainted and after the incident, referee Simon Hooper decided to forfeit the match. Even after the match was cancelled, the spectators remained in the stadium. They were raising slogans in support of Lockyer. Lockyer's teammates and many fans began to cry. "We apologize to the fans, but players on both teams were in no position to continue the game after their teammate and friend left the field in such a manner," Luton said in a statement.

Lockyer had earlier fallen down during a match being played at Wembley Stadium in May. After this he had to undergo heart surgery. However, after recovering, the doctors allowed him to continue playing football. This was Lockyer's 15th match since the start of the new season.

Earlier during the Euro Cup match in June 2021, Denmark's Steve Eriksen also fainted in the middle of the field after suffering a heart attack. This match between Finland and Denmark was played in Copenhagen. The match was canceled after this incident happened in the first half. Ericsson also returned to the field after becoming fit.
