Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has praised test cricketer Usman Khawaja for raising his voice for war victims and humanitarian values during the ongoing Test series against Pakistan.

Usman Khawaja attempted to display a message calling for an end to the war in Gaza during Australia's first Test against Pakistan in Perth.

However, the International Cricket Council has barred Khawaja from sharing these messages on his shoes or bat. Then, he tried to share his thoughts by tying black bands on his hands. But the ICC reprimanded him, accusing him of breaching clothing and equipment rules due to the black armband.

Albanese praised Khawaja for his courage in standing up for humanitarian values while addressing both teams during their New Year reception at Kirribilli House. "I want to congratulate Khawaja for his courage in standing up for human values. He has shown courage and the fact that the team has supported him is a great thing," the PM said.

This SCG Test, starting on Wednesday, will mark not only the end of a series but also the final partnership between Khawaja and his childhood friend Warner. "When Usman Khawaja and David Warner take the field, it will be a very special moment," Albanese said.

Israel and the Hamas terrorists were currently locked in a fierce and bloody war in Gaza. More than 20 thousand people in the Gaza strip had been killed in recurrent Israeli bombings in the past over one month.

The war started after the Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israeli areas and killed over one hundred people and took more than two hundred others, including women and children, hostage.
