Asian Games-Mixed bag for India

It was a mixed bag for the Indian contingent in the ongoing Asian Games with the women’s cricket team making it to the final and the men’s hockey team thrashing Uzbekistan while the women’s table tennis team was knocked out of the competition.

The Indian women’s cricket team, aided by a superlative performance by right arm seamer Vastrakar, who replaced Anjali Sarvani in the squad just before leaving India and had career-best figures of 4/17 in four overs, thrashed Bangladesh to reach the final. Bangladesh were bowled out for 51 in 17.5 overs -- their lowest ever T20 score against the neighbours.

The chase of 52 was a cakewalk as it was achieved in only 8.2 overs. Kanika Ahuja (1 not out) and Jemimah Rodrigues (20 not out) took India home despite losing skipper Smriti Mandhana (7) and Shaifali (17) cheaply.

India will meet Pakistan in the final.

India won a medal with their first event of the day, as the trio of Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey earned a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle event.

Army men Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind won a silver in men's lightweight double sculls as well. Rowing fetched India further medals with Men's Eight team adding another silver, while Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram winning a bronze in men's pair.

In the women's 10m air rifle final, India's Ramita won a bronze medal, taking the overall tally up to 5. Both the men’s and women’s football teams will also be in action in group matches later in the day.

India's Kiran and Anshika Bharti finish 9th in Women's Lightweight Double Sculls. India's Satnam Singh and Parminder Singh finish 6th in Men's Doubles Sculls India's Aswathi Padinjarayil Babu, Mrunmayee Nilesh Salgaonkar, Priya Devi Thangjam, and Rukmani finish 5th in Women's Four final.
