Lucknow: The government-run entities are supposed to promote state or Centre-owned businesses through advertising means, but when it comes to telecommunication sector, Reliance Jio becomes an exception.

Shockingly, the Lucknow-based General Post Office (GPO) has installed a special counter within the premises for pre-booking of JioPhones, the 4G feature phones launched by the Mukesh Ambani-led company.

Lucknow GPO has set up a banner near the Gandhi idol inside the building in which the Chief Post Master has been quoted as requesting the people to buy the JioPhone from one of its counters.

"Reliance JioPhone pre-booking opens in Lucknow GPO," reads the banner. The specific counter number has also been mentioned in the banner.

It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi government at the Centre has often been blamed for working for the capitalists of the country, instead of the poor, and this particular incident has given another reason to be ridiculed by the Opposition.

Here is a tweet from Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Singh:

Ironically, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) might be a state-owned company having a huge number of users in Uttar Pradesh itself, but it is often been ignored in terms of promotions.

The picture has gone viral over social platforms and people are strongly criticising the government for promoting a specific private company.
