Baghpat: The admin of a WhatsApp group was arrested for ostensibly circulating “anti-national” messages on the social media, Baghpat police said on Thursday.

An FIR was lodged into the matter from a member of Hindu Jagran Manch-Dipak Kumar-following the arrest of group admin, Naeem.

The arrest was made after receiving a complaint from Dipak who hails from Bamnauli village in Baraut. In his complaint he stated that a WhatsApp group named ‘Josh’ was circulating objectionable “anti-national” messages leading to incite the local group members.

After a probe, it was found that the group admin, Naeem, also runs a 'Jan Sewa Kendra' (common services centre) in his village, according to Police.

The accused is also said to have added some Pakistani contacts and was defaming the Indian flag and country on the social media.

The anti-national posts in the group had triggered tension in the area, however, the police were quick enough to avoid any unpleasant incident.

Police has confesticated Deepak's mobile phone and booked him under various sections of IPC and IT Acts.
