New Delhi: Everyone wants a child to grow but no one wants the girl in red polka dotted frock, the Amul girl, to grow. The blue-haired girl, who turned 50 years old, has lived every major issue of the country.

But, the credit of her never-ending memories goes to those who are behind her humour. Yes, the founder of Amul, Dr. Verghese Kurien. In 1966, an agreement was made between Amul and an advertising agency, Advertising and Sales Promotion (AASP). AASP’s managing director Sylvester Da-Cunha and Art director Eustace Fernandez wanted to make something which could attract the household women of India. Then, Kurien planned ads of a cartoon girl.

The Amul girl was seen enjoying riding a horse in the first ad of the company. It was captioned, ‘THOROUGHBREAD’.

It could be mentioned here that the Amul girl was noticed crying only once when Dr. Verghese Kurienn died on September 9, 2012.
