Punjab Farmers Rally in Delhi Against Government Policies

Punjab farmers are set to stage a significant demonstration in the heart of Delhi as they gather for a Mahapanchayat to voice their opposition against the policies of the Modi government. Organized by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the Mahapanchayat is part of the ongoing agitation by farmers demanding reforms in agricultural laws and protection of their rights.

Ahead of the Mahapanchayat, farmers plan to march from Uchana to Jind, demonstrating their resolve and unity against government policies perceived as pro-corporate and detrimental to the farming community. The event aims to adopt a Sankalp Patra, outlining key resolutions to escalate the protest and safeguard farming, food security, and livelihoods from corporate exploitation.

With preparations underway for massive participation, leaders representing 37 farmer organizations are expected to converge at Ramlila Maidan for the Mahapanchayat. Nearly 400 organizations are anticipated to join the gathering, underscoring the widespread support for the farmers' cause.

Amidst permissions granted by authorities, farmers are barred from bringing tractors or weapons to the venue, ensuring a peaceful demonstration. The event signifies the culmination of weeks of protests, as farmers continue to press for legislation guaranteeing minimum support prices for crops and the complete waiver of agricultural loans.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha's call for the Mahapanchayat received approval from Delhi Police and municipal authorities, reflecting the legitimacy and significance of the farmers' demands. Since February, farmers have been staging protests at Delhi's borders, demanding reforms and legislative assurances to safeguard their livelihoods.

Despite government offers to procure select crops at minimum support prices for a specified duration, farmers remain steadfast in their demand for comprehensive legislative reforms. The protests underscore deep-seated grievances within the agricultural sector, calling for systemic changes to address farmers' concerns.

As Punjab farmers converge in Delhi for the Mahapanchayat, the event symbolizes a united front against policies perceived as detrimental to agricultural interests. With the spotlight on their demands for MSP laws and withdrawal of contentious agricultural reforms, the farmers' agitation continues to garner widespread attention and support across the country.
