Voting concludes on 119 seats of Telangana, Main contest between BRS, Congress, BJP

Voting for 119 assembly seats of Telangana concluded Thursday. An estimated 64% electorate exercised their franchise till 5 PM.

Voting started at 7 AM and continued till 5 pm.

35655 polling stations had been set up across the state for voting. A total of 2,290 candidates are contesting the elections in Telangana. BRS, which has been ruling Telangana since 2014, is eager to capture power once again, while Congress has also put in all its might. BJP is also leaving no stone unturned to capture power in the southern state.

Voting timings vary in Telangana. Voting in 106 constituencies of the state began at 7 am on Thursday and continued till 5 pm, while in 13 constituencies affected by left wing extremism, voting was held from 7 am to 4 pm.

The fate of Telangana CM KCR, his minister son KT Rama Rao, BJP captives Sanjay Kumar and D Aravind, state Congress President A Revanth Reddy is at stake. The contest in the state is triangular.

The ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi in Telangana has fielded its candidates on all 119 seats. Under the seat sharing agreement, BJP is contesting elections on 111 seats. Jana Sena led by actor Pawan Kalyan is contesting the remaining 8 seats.

Congress is contesting elections on 118 seats in Telangana. Whereas Congress has given one seat to its ally Communist Party of India (BKP).

Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao is contesting from two constituencies, Gajwel and Kamareddy, while he currently represents Gajwel in the Assembly.

BJP has fielded its election campaign president Eatala Rajendra against CM KCR in Gajwel. Lok Sabha member Revanth Reddy is also contesting from Kodangal, a seat he has represented earlier also.

KCR's BRS is focusing on continuing its Vijayarath that started in 2014, while Congress is desperate to return to power after 2018. In fact, it was the previous UPA government that had given statehood to Telangana.

Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party is contesting on 9 seats. AIMIM has fielded its candidates in 9 constituencies of Hyderabad city.

For the first time in Telangana, disabled people and voters above 80 years of age got the facility to cast their vote at home. According to the order of the Election Commission, today has been declared a holiday for all private establishments including IT companies.

More than 2.5 lakh employees had been deployed on duty for the assembly elections in Telangana, this information was given by Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
