Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav reiterated on Thursday that crores of rupees spent by BSP supremo Mayawai on statues depicting party symbol, her mentor Kansi Ram and herself was a waste of public money.

Talking to media persons here, he said he also had a high regard for Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Dalit icon, but the statues depicting him and other Dalit leaders built on public money was not in the interest of the common men and, as such, deplorable.

He was more sarcastic on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi . “He is a good boy but he does not understand Uttar Pradesh and me. If he keeps coming like this he will understand both”.

Akhilesh was replying to his remark he had made during a recent visit that he( Akhilesh) was a good boy but he was not able to deliver because was not given a free hand. “ If he visits the state again and again he may develop liking and friendship with me. But it should not be seen from a political angle”, he added,.

Referring to the looting of Khats hired for the Congress leaders in Deoria on Wednesday , he said he was happy that his party men were not blamed for the same.
