Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has hit back at UP CM Yogi Adityanath over his promise to bring anti-Romeo squads in Bengal. She said the state "loves its Romeos".

In a tweet, Mahua Moitra said: Latest from Ajay Bisht aka YogiCM: Anti-Romeo squads in Bengal if BJP is voted in. Gudduji- Unlike your ilk, we Bengalis are lovers at heart! We like our music, our poetry, our mishti & yes, our Romeos too!

Yogi Adityanath promises to bring Anti-Romeo Squad in Bengal

UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that if BJP comes to the power in West Bengal, it will create anti-Romeo squads and put all TMC's Romeos behind the bars.

Speaking at a BJP rally at Krishnarampur in Hooghly district on Thursday, Yogi Adityanath had said, "To safeguard the interests of sisters and daughters, BJP will create Uttar Pradesh-like anti-Romeo squads in Bengal and put all TMC Romeos behind bars."

"Why is Bengal not a safe place for women? Education and transport will be made free for girls in Bengal. Anti-Romeo squads will be formed in Bengal to deal with those who loiter around girls' schools," he said.

Anti-Romeo squads were launched in Uttar Pradesh to ensure the safety of women soon after Yogi Adityanath assumed power in 2017.

Yogi went on to target CM Mamata Banerjee, saying, "Where is the paribartan that Mamata Banerjee had promised ten years ago?"

"When Trinamool Congress came to power in the state a decade ago, it had promised to serve 'maa-maati-manush' (mother, motherland and people), which became its slogan. "What happened to that slogan? I have come to ask Mamata Banerjee about it. Why is Bengal not a safe place for women? This soil had produced so many social reformers. What happened to the youth of the state who have become frustrated?" asked Adityanath.
