New Delhi: Delhi Congress president, Sheila Dikshit, on Saturday, after meeting Sonia Gandhi, dismissed the proposal of alliance with the ruling AAP for the 17th Lok Sabha polls.

However, sources revealed that the issue of alliance with the AAP in Delhi was discussed during the meeting.

“The decision (against alliance with AAP) after meeting Rahul Gandhi still continues, that is all,” Dikshit told media when asked whether the alliance issue came up during her meeting with Sonia Gandhi, the former, however, strongly rejected any talks of alliance between the two leaders.

According to sources, “The issue of alliance was discussed between Sonia Gandhi and Dikshit and the former asked her to consider the consequences of vote split between the AAP and the Congress, paving way for victory of BJP in the polls.”

“Sheila ji went to invite Sonia Gandhi for our booth workers’ convention scheduled on Monday and it's a rumour that the issue of alliance, which has already been rejected, was discussed,” reprted Devender Yadav, working president of the Delhi Congress.

According to another working president of the Delhi unit, Rajesh Lilothia, Sonia has already said the Congress president will take decisions on all matters concerning the party, “In such a situation, how can she say anything that is contrary to Rahul Gandhi's stand on an alliance?,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Congress president told reporters that the Delhi Congress is against alliance with the AAP in the national capital for the upcoming general elections.

Dikshit, after meeting Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, said there was agreement in the party against alliance with the AAP.

According to sources, over the past three months, the senior AAP leaders had been in touch with the congress leaders. The rejection, AAP leaders claimed, has come from the Delhi unit of the Congress as “it believes it can win in a few seats even without AAP”.

Kejriwal has maintained that Opposition parties should make a tie-up to defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls.
