Before the implementation of the code of conduct for the assembly elections, the debate on the issue of caste census has intensified in Rajasthan.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced to conduct a survey instead of caste census. Gehlot said- We will get the survey done, orders for it will be given immediately. Gehlot was talking to the media in Jaipur.

Gehlot said that there would be a survey not census as only the Indian government can get the census done, the state government cannot get it done.

He said that survey takes time. It took one and a half years in Bihar also. ‘’We decided to conduct a survey, that is a big thing. We are taking forward the decision taken by the All India Congress Committee in the Raipur session. We would like to know the financial condition of every family, so that they can get the benefit of the plans made in the future,’’ he added.

‘’I say again and again that Right to Social Security should be implemented in the country. How will we know who gets social security? For this, survey of every family is necessary. Once the survey is done, it will be known who is in need,’’ Gehlot remarked

The CM said that his dream was that like the European countries, every needy person in the country should get money for living. As Rahul Gandhi had said, every citizen should get Rs 6000 under the NYAY scheme. This is a kind of justice scheme. Every family has the right to live a life with dignity. The condition of many families is very bad. Once the survey is done and the law is made, people will start getting assistance on the basis of the survey without asking for it.

On the Prime Minister's statement of improving the schemes of Rajasthan government by not stopping them, Gehlot said - The Prime Minister has accepted that our schemes are excellent. They should not worry about that, we have finalized the plans and presented them.
