Rajasthan: BJP MP Harish Meena joins Congress

Last month, another Rajasthan BJP MLA Manvendra Singh, the son of veteran BJP leader Jaswant Singh, had joined the Congress.

New Delhi: The BJP is losing its political foot in Rajasthan as one of its MPs, Harish Meena, joined the Congress ahead of the assembly elections, on Wednesday.

The Dausa MP and former Rajasthan Director General of Police, Meena was welcomed into the party by state Congress chief Sachin Pilot and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

Meena joined BJP in 2014 and won the Dausa seat by defeating his brother, Namo Narain Meena a Congress candidate.

He is also a retired IPS officer who last served as the Director General of Police of Rajasthan from March 2009 to December 2013. It is said to be the longest tenure of a DGP in the state. He is also the recipient of Indian Police Medal and President Medal.

Meena calls joining Congress his "homecoming" as he saw that people were unhappy with Narendra Modi's government which is not fulfilling its promises.

Last month, another Rajasthan BJP MLA Manvendra Singh, the son of veteran BJP leader Jaswant Singh, had joined the Congress.

Singh( 54) had said that “Kamal ka Phool Badi Bhool’, means that going with the BJP’s election symbol, the lotus, was a “big mistake”.

The assembly elections are scheduled on December 7.
