Jaipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party filed a complaints with the Election Commission against Congress leader CP Joshi for making caste-based statements at a public gathering.

Nahar Singh Maheshwari, State convener of BJP 's election cell said, "Joshi commented on castes and religion at a public gathering in Sema village, which is a violation of the model code of conduct."

"As his statements could trigger communal disharmony in the state, we have demanded strict action against Joshi in our complaint made to the Election Commission," said Maheshwari.

It is to be mentioned that, on Friday last, Senior Congress leader C.P. Joshi apologised for his remark a day after his video went viral saying ‘only brahmins know and can talk about Hinduism’.

Joshi said, “Respecting the ideals of the Congress and the sentiments of the party workers, I express remorse for my statement if it caused any hurt to the sentiments of any section of the society.”

He was heard saying that only pandits and brahmins knew about Hinduism and were learned enough to speak about it.

He said, “Does anyone know what is the caste of Uma Bharti? What is the caste of Sadhvi Ritambhara? In this country, if anyone knows about religion, it is the pandits and the brahmins.”
