The Congress VP will be accompanied by Raj Babbar and other senior party leaders. His security officials have already reached the place to keep a close eye of the arrangements to avoid any unwanted situation

Rahul Gandhi to visit the violence struck village of Saharanpur

Lucknow: The Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is adamant on going to violence -hit Sahranpur district on saturday despite Uttar Pradesh Police has denied permission to him.

Rahul gandhi will , in any case, reach Sarsawa Airport of Saharanpur, and the further programme will be decided later on, a Congress spokesman said here on Friday. The Congress leader had announced to visit Shabbirpur village of the district where violent Dalit-Thakur riots were witnessed in the recent past.

The Senior Superintendent of Police of Saharanpur Babloo Kumar said that in view of the prevailing tension and subsequent security reasons, the permission to Congress Vice President was being denied.

Three persons had been killed in the violence which broke out few days ago , Shabbirpur being the Centre of violence. It is worth mentioning that Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati had also visited the place recently followed by fresh round of violence..

Gandhi will reach the place at 1330 hours tomorrow while senior leader PL Punia has reached Saharanpur on Friday.

The Saharanpur violence:

It could be recalled that tension in Saharanpur prevailed since May 5 last when a scuffle took place, between two castes, over loud music being played during a procession to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rajput king Maharana Pratap.
