Lucknow: Criminal-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari who met Uttar Pradesh minister for public works Shivpal Yadav here on Tuesday ruled out possibility of merger of his Quaumi Ekta Dal (QED) with the ruling Samajwadi Party.

Shivpal, it may be recalled, had initiated talk regarding the merger of the two parties. It was not finalised because of the opposition to the move by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. This had caused much heart-burning between the two and created an upheaval in the Yadav family.

The issue was, later, left to be decided by party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav who sided with his chief minister son. Even then the issue kept cropping up. Ansari's statement of the day may give it a nice burial.
