Government Eyes Bill to Define Roles of Election Commissioners

Lucknow: Many concerns have surfaced in the nation during the assembly elections in five states. The hijab issue has spread beyond Karnataka, but it is being utilized to inflame communal tensions rather than finding a constitutional solution. On February 14th, like in previous years, Hindutva contractors' hooliganism was witnessed in various areas. No one knows who carried out the assault in Pulwama on the 14th, nor how such a massive amount of explosives got to that sensitive place. Instead of addressing the issues raised by the assault, it is being used politically.

2022 Assembly Election:

At election rallies, opponents are assaulted with respect for language and dignity. Elections in Goa, Uttarakhand, have already been completed after two stages of voting in UP. The following stages are Punjab, Manipur, and U.P. So far, the situation indicates that the BJP's claim of "Achche Din" is not true for the common man. The kind of frauds that are exposed here suggests that the country's account is also not excellent and that the average person's budget is becoming worse. The numbers show that the retail inflation rate has increased again, threatening the general populace.

The National Statistical Office (NSO) reported on Monday that retail inflation was 6.01 percent in January. The consumer price index (CPI) measures retail inflation. Food inflation has risen along with retail inflation. Food inflation has grown from 4.5% in December to 5.43 %. According to the Ministry of Statistics, prices of cereals, eggs, and milk products increased in January 2022 compared to December 2021. The Reserve Bank of India has set a ceiling of up to 6% for retail inflation.

In plain terms, the increase in inflation is being feared. Whatever the RBI's retail inflation cap, inflation is still rising and affecting the average person. In November, the government reported the greatest wholesale inflation in 16 years. Inflation jumped from 12.54 to 14.23 percent in November. Moreover, people may detect rising inflation without looking at the data. When onions sell for Rs.20-25 per kg, tomatoes for Rs.50-60 per kg, and edible oils sell for Rs.200/-, the average man is obliged to buy fewer fruits and grains. Regrettably, the administration does not have the time to hear this interpretation and its anguish.

Making gratis announcements in political rallies and manifestos may be a wonderful electoral tactic, but it is not the appropriate way to govern power. Because power creates opportunities for self-sufficiency, not freebies. Power must guarantee that economic disparity is eliminated, that fundamental requirements such as food, shelter, education, and health are satisfied, and that people's dignity is not undermined. Currently, the central government seems to be failing in these duties. In Parliament, the Union Minister acknowledges growing global inequality. But should the government not endeavor to bridge the widening wealth gap? The nation would have prospered if the government had delivered on its employment pledges, reinforced public institutions instead of privatizing them and supported medium and small-size companies. This would have improved buying power, lifted people out of poverty, and decreased economic inequality. However, behind the guise of elections, Hindu-Muslim problems continue to dominate the nation, and inflation is poised to resurface.
