As the last phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections draws near, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the streets of Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, in a grand roadshow. The enthusiastic crowd, waving saffron flags and chanting slogans, painted a vivid picture of the political fervor in the ancient city.

The Roadshow Spectacle

PM Modi’s roadshow was nothing short of a spectacle. Riding atop an open vehicle, he waved to the sea of supporters lining the streets. The sun-kissed ghats of the Ganges River provided a picturesque backdrop as the procession wound its way through the narrow lanes. The air resonated with slogans praising Modi’s leadership and promising a brighter future for Uttar Pradesh.

A Show of Strength

The roadshow wasn’t just a campaign event; it was a show of strength. The BJP’s candidate from Varanasi, Ajai Rai, accompanied Modi during the rally. Rai, a seasoned politician, has contested against Modi twice before, making this electoral battle a high-stakes one. The Congress hopes that Rai’s local influence will give them an edge in this prestigious constituency.

The Battle for Varanasi

Congress’ decision to field Ajai Rai against Modi is strategic. Rai, a Purvanchal strongman, has deep roots in the region. His nomination sends a clear message: the Congress is determined to challenge Modi on his home turf. However, defeating the incumbent Prime Minister remains an uphill task. Modi’s charisma and the BJP’s organizational machinery make him a formidable opponent.

The Issues at Stake

As the roadshow wound through the streets, the crowd’s enthusiasm was palpable. But beyond the spectacle, voters are concerned about real issues. Unemployment, healthcare, and infrastructure development are top priorities. The Congress has promised to address these concerns, while the BJP highlights its track record in governance and development.

With the last phase of polling scheduled for May 7, both parties are leaving no stone unturned. Rahul Gandhi, too, is making his presence felt in Odisha’s Salipur. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) joining the BJP in Odisha adds another layer of intrigue to the electoral dynamics.
