Can Mulayam save 'vertical' split in Samajwadi Party ???

Lucknow: The hectic parleys are underway as all eyes are again focussed on the ruling Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh to save the party from a vertical split following a clear rebellion by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Various rounds of confabulations proved futile since the party supremo Mulayam released a list of 325 cnadidates for UP assembly polls on Wednesday last which was marked by the omission of several Akhilesh loyalists including former ministers Arvind Singh Gope, Pawan Pandey and ram Govind Chaudhary.

It caused an immediate heart-burn among Akhilesh supporters who gathered at his official residence on Thursday which prompted his to release ‘his’ list of 367 candidates which contained many names which were missing in Mulayam’s list. Being taken as an open defiance of the party leadership, the move fomented fresh trouble in the ruling Yadav clan.

It did not stop here as the uncle of Akhilesh and the state party President Shivpal Singh Yadav came out with another list of 68 candidates which virtually ruled out the party’s alliance with the Congress, Akhilesh was scouting for.

Amid rumours of a split in the party, Shivpal met Mulayam on Friday morning while the political circles have all eyes focussed on the latter with an assumption that he might come out with a formula to calm down the raging tempers and element of discontent over the ticket distribution.

Meanwhile, the reports pouring in from the SP camp suggested that the CM Akhilesh is all set to contest assembly elections from Bundelkhand constituency of Babina in Jhansi district.
