Lalu is passing through a critical phase in his political career

Patna: Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav who has seen many ups and downs in his long political career has never had it so bad. While the trial in another fodder case he is facing has begun, his son-in-law and daughter have been summoned by the Income Tax officials to answer certain queries in person.

As if these were not enough, former deputy chief minister of the state and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushil Modi has been making one allegation after another almost each week since March last.

Both his daughter and her husband have opposed appearance in person before the IT officials which may invite further trouble to the family. His daughter Misa Bharti has been already fined for sending a lawyer to represent her and warned against non-appearance in person on the next date-- June 12.

Serious action may be taken against them under the income tax laws if they continue to defy their orders.

In addition, the family has to provide a satisfactory answer to the charge levelled against Rabri Devi, Lalu's wife and former state chief minister.

She has been charged with accepting a gift of land from a man who is not related to her which is not permissible under the law, according to Modi who has made the accusation.

What makes the matter worse is that the seller is reported to have worked in her cow-shed for a paltry sum. The questions that have come up in this connection are two: one, where from he got money to purchase this land and two, why has he gifted it to her and not to one of his family members?

The land was purchased for Rs 3.93 lakhs in 2009. The price had shot up to Rs 31 lakhs in 2014 when it was gifted to her.

Clearly, Lalu has more worries at hand than he would have imagined.
