Congress popularity in this area is such as many remote villages in this region recognize only the Congress' hand symbol and remember only former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Bharatiya Janata Party, however, a day ahead of congress campaign moved in Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from neighbouring Maharashtra to Dharampur to galvanise over 4,000 party workers at a 'cluster meeting' of the party's rank and file in presence of state chief Jitu Vaghani.

Although,Fadnavis' Dharampur visit was announced by the party only on Tuesday, BJP Gujarat General Secretary Bharatsinh Parmar calimed that their meeting was fixed much before than the Congress rally.

During 2017 Assembly polls, Gandhi had held many rallies across the length and breadth of the state, since then it is his first visit there.

While the BJP returned to power in the state in 2017 by winning 99 seats in the 182-member Assembly, the Congress’s graph also jumped from 60 to 77.

The party is also likely to organise its working committee meet, there, to boost its cadre before the Lok Sabha elections, a party source said.

The Congress, however, had drawn a blank in Gujarat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections when the BJP had won all 26 seats but secured 11 seats in the state in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

This time Congress party is all set to start its much ambitious campanign from Lal Dungri and the state unit, meanwhile, has galvanised its 75 legislators to ensure a big show.
