Indian cricket stalwart Gautam Gambhir, known for his prolific career on the field, is making headlines with a notable off-field decision. As he prepares to assume the role of mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming IPL 2024 season, Gambhir has formally approached BJP Chief Jagat Prakash Nadda, requesting to be relieved of his political duties. This strategic move aligns with Gambhir's dedication to focusing on his cricket commitments, marking a significant shift in his professional priorities.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Gambhir expressed his gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah for providing him with the opportunity to serve the people. In a heartfelt tweet, he stated, "I have requested Hon’ble Party President @JPNadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM @narendramodiji and Hon’ble HM @AmitShah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!"

This decision comes just days before Gambhir's anticipated return to KKR, the team he led to IPL victories in 2012 and 2014. As he steps into the role of mentor, Gambhir will collaborate closely with head coach Chandrakant Pandit, bringing a wealth of cricketing experience to the team. KKR officially announced Gambhir's return on November 21, 2023, generating excitement among fans and setting high expectations for the upcoming season.

Gambhir's foray into mentoring is not new, as he previously served as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. His astute guidance played a pivotal role in LSG's journey to the playoffs in both instances, solidifying his reputation as an influential figure in the Indian Premier League.

The seasoned cricketer's decision to step back from political responsibilities emphasizes his commitment to making a meaningful impact in the world of cricket. With the IPL 2024 season kicking off on March 23, where KKR faces Sunrisers Hyderabad in Kolkata, Gambhir's mentorship is expected to contribute significantly to the team's strategic and competitive edge.

As Gautam Gambhir embarks on this new chapter in his career, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing the synergy between his cricketing expertise and mentorship skills, bringing fresh energy to the Kolkata Knight Riders in the pursuit of further IPL glory.
