Lucknow: The Union minister for Water Resources and Ganga rejuvenation Uma Bharti On Sunday said the sacred river Ganga should not be made a political issue as it is against concepts of the religion.

“Ganga is a sacred river and making it a political issue is nothing less than a sin according to religious ethics. Any policies made for the river’s rejuvenation would financially be taken care by the central government,” said Bharti in a press conference at the VVIP guest house in the state capital.

What else Bharti said:

  • We had a discussion with the UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on Ganga projects.
  • A budget of 20,000 crore was passed when the BJP government was formed.
  • 3,000 and 4,000 crore have already been spent on the Yamuna and Ganga rivers, respectively.
  • She refused to make any comment on drought-affected Bundelkhand areas.
