It may be mentioned that Bhatia, who shared a close bonding with Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, is the son of former Rajya Sabha member Late Virendra Bhatia.

During the previous SP regime in Uttar Pradesh, he was the Additional Advocate General of the state.

Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, he resigned from all posts in Samajwadi Party.

While joining the party, the Supreme Court lawyer Gaurav Bhatia said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hard work inspired me to join BJP. He has guided the country on a new way of development."

"Now it has become really tough to stay in the Samajwadi Party, as the party leadership has stopped following the principles of Ram Manohar Lohia. SP is only practising dynasty politics," he added.
