New Delhi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Wednesday in presence of party national president Amit Shah.

It may be recalled that Krishna had snapped ties with Congress two months back.

"I am very grateful that I have been welcomes in a party which was led by the great leaders. I can clearly see a great India in making under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ably supported by the party President Amit Shah," said Krishna at the time of joining the party.

The programme was also joined by some prominent leaders of BJP.

Earlier, Krishna was scheduled to join BJP on March 15, but due to the demise of his sister Sunitha, the joining had to be postponed.

The 84-year-old leader had quit Congress on January 29, claiming that the party was confused on whether it requires mass leaders or not.

Krishna, who served as the Karnataka chief minister from 1999 to 2004, had came back to his state's politics after resigning as then External Affairs Minister in 2012.

It may be mentioned that he has also worked as the Maharashtra Governor in the past.
