Eyeing upcoming polls, CM Virbhadra Singh debuts on WhatsApp

Shimla: The longest serving Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh has moved a notch ahead in strengthening his presence over the social sites by announcing his official number for the instant messaging app WhatsApp.

Opting out the most latest way of communicating with the masses to address their grievances, Singh on Monday went live over the social media giant Facebook to make public his WhatsApp number +919816661555.

It may be mentioned that Virbhadra remains active on Facebook and Twitter and also has a verified accounts on both social platforms. His Twitter account has 24.4k followers, while FB page has over two lakh likes.

Social media has a larger role to play in the political circles of Himachal Pradesh, which will observe polling in 2017 last. Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhoomal also uses Facebook as a tool to maintain his connect with the people.

Out of the 22 lakh voters in the state, nearly 10 lakh are considered as active Facebook users.
