Demonetisation: Swamy holds finance ministry guilty for people's plight

Allahabad: Showing some empathy towards the people of the country who have to stand in the bank queues for long hours due to government's decision of demonetisation, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Subramanian Swami on Friday questioned the functioning of his own government saying that the finance ministry could have implemented the decision in a better manner.

He also showed disappointment over the size of the new Rs 2,000 notes.

According to Swamy, the finance ministry hasn’t worked properly on this matter. The common people are facing problems because of improper homework by the ministry during its two-and-a-half-year in the office.

Swamy also alleged that the Arun Jaitley-led finance ministry is still having three very close men of erstwhile Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who are holding very important posts. He said it is a possibility that they have knowingly created all this mess, and suggested to remove them from their posts immediately.

Talking to the media at a function held to mark the death anniversary of Late Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, Swamy defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying rectifying such mistakes is the responsibility of the ministry, not the PM.

Meanwhile, he also claimed that demonetisation has stopped the funding of terrorist organisations for some time. He alleged that the black money concept had developed during the tenure of India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru due to his wrong policies.
