Congress state president, AAP MLA offer resignations post defeat in MCD polls

New Delhi: Taking the responsibility of not-so-good show by their respective parties in the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, the Congress State President Ajay Maken and Aam Admi Party's Member of Delhi legislative assembly Alka Lamba have announced their resignation from the post.

Congratulating the party on making a successful comeback, Maken stated that the Congress has performed well but not what the senior leaders had expected. "Thus, we cannot call it a good show and taking the responsibility for defeat, I am going to resign as Delhi Congress President," said the Congress state president.

Further stating that the results have been below expectations, Ajay Maken said, "I will not take any other post in the party for at least a year."

He, however, suggested that the EVM issue should once be probed by the Election Commission. "While if we can't trust EVM, we must trust EC," said Maken.

Alka Lamba has also offered resignation as MLA, post accepting AAP's defeat. The leader said, "Taking responsibility for defeat in all 3 wards, I offer to resign as MLA and from all party posts."

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party's National president Amit Shah and party's Delhi President Manoj Tiwari shared the happiness after winning the polls of all three civic bodies stating, the win shows the the people of Delhi want to get rid of 'politics of negativity'.

While Shah said, "The win in Delhi MCD polls shows PM Narendra Modi's acceptability to the masses", Tiwari stated that the party has dedicated this win to the martyrs of the Sukama attack. "We dedicate this win to CRPF jawans who lost their lives in Sukma attack," said Manoj Tiwari
