Senior leaders of the two main political players in the forthcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh Congress and BJP plan to criss-cross the state to reach out to the electorate and seek their support.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra plans to address a public meeting at Gawallior, the stronghold of former Congress leader and union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Friday. It will be the first visit by a senior Congress leader to Scindia’s bastion after the latter’s exit.

Former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi will be addressing a public meeting at Byohari in Shahdol district on August eight. Congress national chief Mallikarjun Kharge will also be addressing a rally in Sagar district on August 13.

Congress sources said that Rahul could also visit the tribal dominated Barwani district after addressing the meeting in Shahdol. The state party leaders also said that Rahul could address another meeting in Barwani, Jhabua or Alirajpur districts.

The MP Congress unit has also sent a proposal to the party’s central leadership to finalize Kharge’s program at Ujjain.

Not wanting to be left behind, BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda would be on a visit to Bhopal on 22 July. Union home minister Amit Shah is also likely to visit Ujjain on July 23.

The assembly polls in MP are crucial for the BJP as it had lost the previous polls in 2018 to Congress narrowly. The BJP later came back to power after Scindia rebelled with around 20 MLAs
