UP Congress to get new President, Nirmal Khatri makes way
Lucknow: The Congress is likely to announce its new Uttar Pradesh Chief in a couple of days after Nirmal Khatri, the present incumbent of the post, tendered his resignation which was immediately accepted by party high command Sonia Gandhi.
It is believed that the Congress is searching for a Brahmin face to keep its political equations right ahead of 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. The leaders like Jitin Prasad, Pramod Tiwari and Rajesh Mishra are considered to be in the reckoning as the new UPCC president.
The newly appointed UP Congress in-charge Gulam Nabi Azad and new generation political analyst Prashant Kishore, however, were satisfied with the functioning of Khatri and they had advocated that he should remain as the UPCC chief but the internal bickering prompted the latter to take this step. Khatri is likely to get some assignment in the party organisation, party sources claimed.
