Government Eyes Bill to Define Roles of Election Commissioners

In Uttarakhand, the highest turnout was 68.37 percent in Haridwar district and the lowest was 50.65 percent in Almora district on February 14. While 57.83 percent live in Bageshwar, 59.28 percent live in Chamoli, 56.97 percent live in Champawat, 52.93 percent live in Dehradun, 63.12 percent live in Nainital, 51.93 percent live in Pauri Garhwal, 57.49 percent live in Pithoragarh, 60.36 percent live in Rudraprayag, 52.66 percent live in Tehri Garhwal, and 65.13 percent live in Udham Singh Nagar and in Uttarkashi district, 65.55 percent of people voted.

In Goa, 11,56,464 voters determined the destiny of 301 candidates running for 40 seats. The second round of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh had a total of 61.06 percent turnout.

According to electoral commission figures, north Goa had 79.45 percent turnout, while south Goa had 76.92 percent turnout. In Uttar Pradesh, where voting was held in 55 seats across nine districts, Saharanpur had the greatest voter participation at 67.52 percent, while Shahjahanpur had the lowest at 55.20 percent. In the UP district of Amroha, voting was reported at 66.15 percent in Bareilly at 58.82 percent, Bijnor at 62.11 percent, Badaun at 56.83 percent, Moradabad at 64.56 percent, Rampur at 62.31 percent, and Sambhal at 56.88 percent.

In Uttar Pradesh, around 2.02 crore voters chose the destiny of 586 candidates in 55 assembly seats scattered over nine districts. Saharanpur, Vijnaur, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Amroha, Badaun, Bareilly, and Shahjahanpur are among these districts. Elections for 58 seats in Uttar Pradesh were conducted on February 10. On election day, 203 charges of violation of the election code of conduct were filed in Uttarakhand.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Sowjana, this includes examples of voter enticement, unlawful use of election materials, illegal use of election work by cars, and violations of the Covid protocol. Soujanya said that all complaints received immediately before the election was given to the RO and that cases were lodged based on preliminary inquiries and facts. Voters in two villages of the Kedarnath assembly constituency—Jaggi Bagwan and Chilond—completely boycotted the election in Uttarakhand, enraged at the lack of road building.

Chilond village has 225 voters, whereas Jaggi Bagwan village has 376 votes. Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that the BJP attempted to give booze and notes at various voting stations in the Tehri district, making it impossible for the elderly to see the election symbol and vote. He filed a complaint with the Election Commission. Harish Rawat learned that Rs 100 crore had arrived in Uttarakhand from Delhi.

A voter in Narendranagar died of a heart attack as he was about to vote. Veer Singh Topwal, 67, a Kumali village resident, was on his way to the Chaumpa polling station to vote. Veer Singh had arrived at the Chaumpa voting station's stairs when his chest started to hurt. The family members walking with them kept them seated on the steps for a while, but their discomfort worsened. According to sources, 108 services were sent to the scene and transported to the Community Health Centre Bay for treatment. Doctors directed him to the Higher Centre Shridev Suman Joint Hospital, but when he arrived at Shridev Suman Hospital, Dr. Shivani Ramola proclaimed him dead. Premavati Saklani, a 102-year-old elderly lady from the hamlet of Bhaskodi in the Tholchar block, sat in Kandi to vote. The result declaration day is the 10th of March all the parties are eagerly waiting for it and expecting a huge mandate for their parties.
