BSP received a shot in the arm in the poll bound Madhya Pradesh when senior BJP leader Rakshpal Singh, who wields considerable influence in the Bhind region of the state joined the party.

Singh was accorded a rousing welcome upon his arrival in Bhind town as thousands of his supporters thronged the streets of the city to cheer him.

Singh was accompanied by a huge cavalcade of vehicles packed with his supporters who raised slogans in favour of the BSP.

BSP was looking for a strong leader in the region after its MLA Sanjeev Singh Kushwah had joined the BJP.
In his address before his supporters, Singh slammed Kushwah for betraying the BSP and accused him of turning a blind eye to the needs of the region. ‘’I joined the BSP after I realised that the BJP government was neglecting the people of the district,’’ Singh added.

BSP has considerable support in the Bhind-Morena region of the state and the party had in the 2018 assembly polls also won a few seats in the region. BSP legislators, however, have almost regularly joined the other parties after being elected.

BSP supremo Mayawati had recently announced that her party would not enter into any kind of alliance in the forthcoming assembly poll in the state and would go it alone.

There were reports in a section of the media that Congress and BSP could join hands in the state to counter the BJP and a senior BSP leader had also met senior Congress leaders in Delhi to discuss the alliance. BSP had however denied that such a meeting had taken place.
