In one of the strongest performances, the BJP won the Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly polls the results of which were declared on Sunday.

Congress managed to win Telangana by ousting the BRS.

BJP wrested power from the Congress in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while it not only held but dramatically improved its tally in MP from 109 in 2018 to 167. Congress could win only 62 seats in MP.

In Rajasthan the BJP won 115 of the 199 seats while Congress managed to win only 71 seats. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP stunned the pollsters also winning 55 seats while Congress was reduced to 33 in a House of 90.

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot met the state governor Kalraj Mishra and tendered his resignation. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel also resigned following his defeat.

While Gehlot, former deputy CM Sachin Pilot and state Congress chief G.S Dotasara won the poll, many of the ministers were defeated. For the BJP, former CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia won from Jhalarapatan seat.

In both MP and Chhattisgarh, Congress had confidence but while the public rejected the incumbency in MP, an anti-incumbency wave was clearly visible against Bhupesh Baghel.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will go to BJP headquarters in the evening and address party workers.

There is news of clash between BJP and Congress workers in Shajapur, Madhya Pradesh. Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse them.

BJP President JP Nadda wrote on social media ‘’Heartfelt thanks to the people of the state for the grand victory of BJP in Rajasthan. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of Rajasthan have approved service, good governance and development’’.

Regarding the results of the elections, Rajnath Singh wrote on social media - The massive victory in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh is a victory of the charismatic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the strong public trust towards BJP.

Modi wrote on his social media handle ‘’The election results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are showing that the people of India have faith only in the politics of good governance and development, their faith is in BJP. I assure them that we will continue to work tirelessly for your welfare’’.

Gehlot said that ‘’We humbly accept the mandate given by the people of Rajasthan. This is an unexpected result for everyone. This defeat shows that we were not completely successful in taking our plans, laws and innovations to the public’’.
