After its resounding victory in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the BJP now rules over more than 41 percent of the country's population on its own.

With its alliance partners, however, the percentage of the Indians ruled by the BJP stands at over 50.

The country's oldest and so-called 'major' opposition party, Congress, now rules over only 8.51 percent of the country's population on its own, although with the help of its alliance partners, Congress is still ruling over 19.84 percent of Indians.

After the election results on Sunday, BJP will now have its own government in 12 states of the country - Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Manipur, Goa and Arunachal Pradesh.

In this context, 16.51 percent of the country is in UP, six percent in MP, 5.66 percent in Rajasthan, 4.99 percent in Gujarat, 2.58 percent in Assam, 2.11 percent in Chhattisgarh, 2.09 percent in Haryana, 0.83 percent in Uttarakhand, 0.3 percent in Tripura, 0.21 percent lives in Manipur, 0.12 percent in Goa and 0.11 percent in Arunachal Pradesh, and thus BJP is ruling the total 41.51 percent population of the country on its own.

Apart from these 12 states, the BJP, is also ruling Maharashtra (9.28 percent), Meghalaya (0.25 percent), Nagaland (0.16 percent) and Sikkim (0.05 percent) through alliance with a total of 9.74 percent population. So, BJP has now ruled more than half of the country, i.e. 51.25 percent of the population.

On the other hand, the country's oldest political party, the Indian National Congress, will now have government on its own in only three states.

A total of 8.51 percent population of the country lives in these three states. These states are Karnataka (5.05 percent), Telangana (2.89 percent) and Himachal Pradesh (0.57 percent). Apart from this, Congress is also included as a coalition partner in two state governments, which are - Bihar and Jharkhand. These two states have 8.6 percent and 2.73 percent population respectively, hence, together, the Congress rule is limited to 19.84 percent of the country's population.

Other states and union territories of the country are ruled by the President or other parties, where 28.91 percent of the total population of the country resides. If we talk specifically about the parties that have got the status of national party, apart from Congress and BJP, there are four more national parties in the country - Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and National People's Party (NPP). Of these four parties, AAP rules Delhi (1.39 percent) and Punjab (2.29 percent) with 3.68 percent population of the country. CPM rules only in Kerala (2.76 percent), and NPP rules only in Meghalaya (0.25 percent).
