New Delhi: A few of the ministers poured praises over Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday after he won TIME Person of the Year 2016's online reader poll.

The Opposition leaders, however, took a dig at him saying if this Time poll was conducted in India, he would have seen that his popularity has declined, especially after demonetisation.

"I personally feel Modi ji is not only Person of the Year, but Person of the Century. With the kind of agendas like peace, growth, prosperity and employment, he is going to have the country as well as the world revolving around him for the next 84 years," Union Water Resources Minister said.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also wished Modi for win in Time poll, saying, "I congratulate him."

Congress MP Raj Babbar, mocking the PM, claimed that those who voted for Modi were apparently unaware of the hike in price of flour and daal since the NDA government took the reins in the country and the plight of people after demonetisation.

"I would like to humbly tell Modi ji... You should not go by the Times survey... Your popularity, which helped you become the Prime Minister of India, has gone down drastically over the past two-and-half years. Please keep it in mind," Babbar said.

CPI national secretary D Raja had similar views as he claimed that people are unhappy with demonetisation.

"The Prime Minister may be happy this time after this certificate from TIME, but what about the certificate from people of the country?" Raja asked.

Attacking PM Modi, former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury claimed that it wasn’t surprising that Modi won the survey, as he has pushed the entire country into difficulties with just one stroke of demonetisation.

Modi has won the online readers’ poll for TIME Person of the Year 2016 leaving behind world leaders like US President- elect Donald Trump, incumbent US Prez Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Time's editors would elect the final Person of the Year later this week, but the online poll results have clearly shown that how people around the globe are seeing the change in India which unarguably has been brought by PM Modi.
