BJP has failed to curb crime in Uttar Pradesh: Mulayam

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party mentor Mulayam Singh Yadav on Wednesday said the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh has failed to curb crime and maintain law and order.

The former Chief Minister told the media in Muradnagar, where he was meeting Aashu Malik, his loyalist and party MLC, that the BJP has failed to keep its promise to tackle crime in the five months it has been in power.

When asked about the Supreme Court's decision on triple talaq, Mulayam Singh called it a "fair" decision.

The senior leader was surrounded by party workers, who jostled to get close to him, as this was his first major outing of this kind in many months.

Some of these party workers were injured when they tried to climb his car and run after his motorcade.

Mulayam Singh has been away from the media after the Samajwadi Party was handed a drubbing by the BJP in the assembly elections in March.

He also lost control over the party ever since his son and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ousted him as the party chief and took over the reins of the party on January 1.
