He told that he gave up drinking on January 1 and is quite determined to refrain from alcohol for the rest of his life.

As per Mann, his mother asked him to quit alcohol as this habit gave his opponents a chance to malign his image. His mother used to feel bad when she saw people talking ill about her son on national television. On her advice, the AAP leader chose to quit drinking. "Now, as I've completely quit liquor, no one will get the chance to make nasty comments about me" 'said Mann while addressing the public.

He said that every leader should be like him as he has given up on liquor permanently and this is a "big sacrifice."

In 2016, suspended AAP lawmaker Harinder Singh Khalsa had complained against Mann to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and requested her to change his seat in Parliament, as Bhagwant who sat next to him smelled of alcohol.
