Lucknow: The seventh phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections passed off peacefully and recorded an average turnout of about 60 per cent on Wednesday.

The polling began at 7 in the morning and concluded at 5 in the evening.

The highest polling percentage was recorded at Varanasi South (65.00 per cent), while Zamania and Machhlishahr (SC) recorded the lowest at 56.00 per cent respectively.

The district wise polling percentage (about 60 per cent) was greater as compared to the 2012 Assembly elections (58.55 per cent).

The seventh phase polling took place at 40 constituencies, spread across 7 districts. The seventh phase will be a test for 535 candidates contesting the 2017 assembly elections. A total of 1.41 crore voters, including 64.76 lakh females exercised their franchise in this phase to lock the fate of these politicos.

This phase has a number of 40 seats on which different political parties have nominated their candidates, comprising: 40 from BSP, 32 of BJP, 31 of SP, 9 of Congress, 21 of RLD and 5 of NCP.

Results of the polling would be announced on March 11.
