Chennai: The Madras High Court on Monday adjourned the AIADMK legislators' disqualification case to November 2 while reiterating that no floor test or by-election should take place in Tamil Nadu until then.

The petition was filed by 18 AIADMK legislators belonging to sidelined leader T.T.V. Dinakaran and V.K. Sasikala who were disqualified under the anti-defection law by Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal.

The counsel for the 18 lawmakers told the court that they have not joined another party and were only opposed to Chief Minister K. Palaniswami.

The counsel for the Speaker defended the disqualification decision. After hearing both the sides, the court posted the matter for November 2.

The MLAs were disqualified by the Speaker after they gave a letter to Tamil Nadu Governor withdrawing their support to Chief Minister Palaniswami.
