A quick look at the 17th LS elections for 42 seats in Bengal

Despite Amit Shah's violence-affected rally in Kolkata, the Trinamool Congress won all nine seats which includes Dammam, Barasat, Kolkata South, Kolkata North, Mathura, Jadhavpur, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Diamond Harbor. Due to the violence in Shah's rally, the EC had taken strict steps.

Lucknow: In the elections held for the 17th Lok Sabha, the BJP performed its best in West Bengal. It managed to secure 16 seats there. In the prior elections, it won just two seats. In Bengal, Trinamool Congress suffered a loss of 12 seats. In 2014, it had secured 34 out of 42 seats. This time it won only 22 seats. Trinamool is in power in the state since 2011.

Despite Amit Shah's violence-affected rally in Kolkata, the Trinamool Congress won all nine seats which includes Dammam, Barasat, Kolkata South, Kolkata North, Mathura, Jadhavpur, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Diamond Harbor. Due to the violence in Shah's rally, the EC had taken strict steps.

On contrary to the 2014 elections, BJP did get benefit in Odisha as well. It managed to win 8 of the 21 seats there. In this state, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) suffered a loss of 8 seats. It had won 20 seats in 2014 LS elections. The new Chief Patnaik of the BJD is chief minister from 2000 in Odisha.

This time BJP adopted the aggressive campaign in Bengal and Odisha. It handed over the command of election in Bengal to its firebrand leader Kailash Vijayvargiya. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah also campaigned in these two states. Modi made 142 election rallies across the country in 50 days. Among which, he campaigned 17 rallies in Bengal and 8 rallies in Odisha. Shah too did road shows in Kolkata. However, they they did not get permission to hold rally in Jadhavpur.

-Miss Chakraborty, who contested for the first time, won more than 2 lakh 95 thousand votes.

-In West Bengal, Saugat Roy of Trinamool won elections from Damdam Lok Sabha constituency. He defeated his nearest rival BJP's Samik Bhattacharya by 53002 votes. They also won the elections here on the Trinamool ticket in 2014. However, their victory margin was 15,434.

-Mala Roy of Trinamool defeated BJP's Chandram Kumar Bose by 1, 55, 192 votes frpm south Kolkata. This seat was also in Trinamool's account in 2014. Subrata Bakshi was successful in winning from here.

-Trinamool's Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar won the Barasat seat. He defeated BJP's Mrinal Kanti Devnath by 10,993 votes. Dr. Kakoli had become the MP from Tikamul's ticket in 2014 from this seat.

-Sudip Bandopadhyay of Trinamool from the north has won by defeating his nearest rival BJP's Rahul Biswajeet Sinha by the difference of 127095 votes. Sudeep had also reached Parliament by winning this seat in 2014.

-Mohan Jatva Chaudhary of Trinamool defeated Shyam Prasad Halder of BJP by a gap of 203974 votes from Mathurapura. He won by 138768 votes in this seat in 2014.

-Mr Chakraborty of Trinamool has won the election from Jadhavpur. He defeated BJP's Anupam Hazara with 295239 votes. This seat was also held by Trinamool in 2014.

-Nusrat Jaha of Trinamool from Bashirhat defeated BJP's Sayyantan Basu by a margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes. This seat was also with the Trinamool in 2014.

-Abhishek Banerjee of Trinamool from Diamond Harbor defeated BJP's Nilanjana Roy with a difference of more than 3 lakh 20 thousand votes. Abhishek had reached the Lok Sabha in 2014 by winning 71298 votes.

-BJP's Babul Supriyo defeated Trinamool's Munmun Sen by 197637 votes in Asansol seat of Bengal.

-BJP's Locket Chatterjee has won the election from Hooghly. He defeated Dr. Ratna De Nag of Trinamool by 73362 votes.

-BJP's SS Ahluwalia defeated Dr Mamtaz Sanghamita of Trinamool by 2439 votes on Bardhaman-Durgapur seat.

-Raju Bisht of BJP won from Darjeeling. He defeated Amar Singh Roy of Trinamool by a margin of 41,343 votes.

-BJP's Sukanta Majumdar from Balurghat defeated Arpita Ghosh of Trinamool by 33,293 votes.

-Trinamool's Shatabdi Roy defeated BJP's Doodh Kumar Mandal by a margin of 88,924 votes from Birbhum.

-From Alipurdu, BJP's John Barla defeated Dashrath Tirkey of Trinamool by 24,398 votes.

-Apurva Poddar of Trinamool defeated BJP's Tapan Kumar Roy by Arambagh by 1142 votes.

-Ranbir Chowdhary of Congress from Bahrampur defeated Trinamool's Apoorva Sarkar by 80696 votes.

-BJP's Dr Jayant Kumar Roy defeated Bijoy Chandra Barman of Trinamool with more than 1.80 lakh votes from Jalpaiguri.

-From Puri Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, Pinaki Mishra of BJD defeated BJP's National Spokesperson Sambit Patra. This seat has been with the Janata Dal and then the BJD for 40 years.

-From Kendrapara seat of Odisha, BJD's Anubhav Mohanty defeated BJP's Baijayant Panda by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.

-BJP's Jual Oram defeated Sunita Biswal of BJD with more than 2 lakh 20 thousand votes from Sundargarh.

-BJP's Aparajita Sarangi defeated Arup Mohan Patnaik of BJD by more than 20 thousand votes from Bhubaneswar.

-BJD's Bhartruhari Mahatat defeated BJP's Prakash Mishra with more than 1, 15 thousand votes from Cuttack.

-BJP's Basant Kumar Panda defeated Pushpendra Singh Dev of BJD by more than 20 thousand votes from Kalahandi.
