Launching a scathing attack on the opposition MPs before the budget session of the Parliament, prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the budget session was a chance for the opposition lawmakers to ‘repent’.

Modi gave a statement in the Parliament premises and targeted the MPs who created ruckus. He said that this session is an opportunity to repent for the MPs who have sabotaged democracy in Parliament.

"The opposition should introspect, no one will remember those who would have created ruckus and noise during the last 10 years, but those who would have communicated their views in a meaningful discussion in the House, everyone will remember them. This session is the interim budget session before the elections, after which the elections will be held. As per tradition, we are presenting this interim budget. We will present the full budget after the elections," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said that "when the time of elections is near, the full budget is not kept, we will also follow the same tradition and bring the full budget after the formation of the new government. This time, the country's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present the budget on Thursday with guidelines. I believe that the country is constantly moving forward, crossing new heights of progress."

Before the budget session, PM Modi said that "at the end of the first session held in this new Parliament building, this Parliament had taken a very dignified decision, which was the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
