Talaq given to a woman in town for not serving tea on time

Fatehpur ( U P): A Muslim woman was divorced for not offering a cup of a tea to the husband on time. Another woman in the town belonging to the same community was shown the door for questioning hubby's relationship with another woman living in the neighbourhood.

A group of 50 divorcees met the Bharatiya Janata Party assembly member Vikram Singh here on Monday and cited several other instances of talaq for no major reason.

The group women supported the central government's move against triple talaq and told the member that the Muslim Personal Law Board had not much against this practice.

"There would have been no need for Modi jee ( Prime Minister Narendra Modi) or any one else to intervene if the Board had done enough in this regard". they said.

The group urged the MLA to meet chief minister Yogi Adtyanath and through him make Modi aware of the situation in this part of the country.

Singh has assured the group to do the needful.

The Supreme Court is already seized of the matter and may pronounce its judgement on the issue before the end of summer vacation.
