Unbelievable story of a Muslim woman who was divorced for rupees five
Meerut: A recent talaq case which came to light on Friday will strengthen hands of the Modi government at the Centre and others who favour banning of triple talaq as it is prejudiced against women. The case relates to a woman who has two minor children and who was divorced for not lending a fiver.
The incident has shocked her elder sister who was married to the same family so much that she has sought divorce and expressed desire to leave the family of in-laws for ever.
Two sisters who were born and brought up here were married to a family in Narhera village in Rajasthan five years ago. They were named Amreen and Farhin.
Farhin who mothered two children, a son and a daughter, and who is younger has come back to her place of birth after she was thrown out of her in-laws' house. Her sister is also back to her parents to comfort the younger sister.
Narrating the incident Amreen, who is older by a few years to her, said, " son of younger sister went to his father and demanded Rs five to buy an eatable. He sent him to his wife. On her refusal to spare the amount the husband got angry. Heated exchanges followed which ended in uttering of talaq, talaq, thrice ".
It has scared the elder sister so much that she does not want to go back to her in-laws and staying put in her parental house in Uttar Pradesh . She has asked for a divorce which has not been granted so far.
The two sisters have approached the police for help which has been promised. They have also complained of harassment for dowry which has been noted by the police. The family hopes to get justice which may be given sooner or later. The family is also pinning its hope on the Supreme Court which will hear the triple talaq case filed by others on a day to day basis from May 11 and may pronounce its judgement soon.
