New Delhi: Amid the criticisms from the opposition leaders alleging that the government at Centre is trying to gain undue advantage from the surgical strike, the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, on Wednesday praised the Modi government for showing guts to take the decision. "No one thought India could do something like this," the Defence Minister said. He stated that the army was given a free hand by the present government, which has the guts to take decisions.

Praising the armed forces he said that while the forces deserve 100 percent credit, the government must be cheered for the decision it took boldly. He said that not just the government but the strike is a victory for the 127 hundred crore Indians and it should be cherished by everyone.

Enough of Pak’s terrorism:

  • Clearing India’s take on Pakistan and its terrorist activities, Parrikar said that there is now no predictability with India. “The next response could be worse than the surgical strike,” stated the Defence Minister.

Parrikar on Surgical strikes taking place before the Modi government:

  • Manohar Parrikar countered the opposition leaders claiming that the surgical strikes have taken place earlier. “I have been Defence Minister for over two years and from whatever I have learnt, there was no surgical strike anytime earlier," he stated.
  • Praising PM Modi for asking ministers to avoid exaggerating the surgical strike issue, the Defence Minister stated that the “PM has asked his colleagues to show restraint to chest-thumping,” he said.

Not interested in Delhi:

  • Parrikar said that he was never interested in Delhi. “I came here for Defence. I was never interested in forming government in Delhi or any other state,” he stated.
